Scott Sakakihara
Scott Sakakihara was elected to the Union City City Council in 2022. Prior to his election, he served on the Union City Planning Commission, first as an alternate beginning in 2017 and later as a full member. Scott is a lifelong Union City resident of District 4 and attended Pioneer Elementary School, Itliong–Vera Cruz Middle School (formerly Alvarado Middle School), and James Logan High School.
Scott currently serves as the Council representative on the Alameda County Fire Department Advisory Commission, Ava Community Energy Board of Directors, and the Housing Authority of Alameda County. He also serves as an alternate representative on the Alameda County Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments.
Scott is an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy Reserve and serves as the finance chief of staff for a software company. He is a member of the Union City Lions Club and Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Earlier in his career, he interned with Congressman Pete Stark in 2009 and later participated in a Japanese American Citizens League Fellowship, serving in the offices of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono and the Obama White House.
Scott graduated with honors from the University of California, San Diego, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of California. Scott and his wife, Melinda, have two children and reside in Union City.
