Community Fiber — Building the Town's Digital Infrastructure

activelosaltoshills
Los Altos Hills is making a significant long-term investment in community-owned fiber optic internet infrastructure — an unusual civic project that reflects the town's commitment to self-reliance. The Los Altos Hills Community Fiber (LAHCF) organization has been rolling out underground fiber conduit across the town in phases: conduits in the Fremont Road project area are fully installed, with the Stonebrook/Prospect/La Loma area now underway, and fiber line installation for these segments is anticipated for completion in March 2026 to align with a connection to the ARK building at Foothill College. The project aims to provide reliable, high-speed connectivity to a community where large lot sizes and hillside terrain make commercial broadband deployment slow and expensive. The Council's 2026–27 Work Plan lists community fiber as an ongoing priority, but the project's timeline and budget remain subjects of active Council oversight.
