Community Identity & Civic Pride — The Most Filipino City in America

activedalycity
Daly City is home to the largest concentration of Filipinos of any city in the United States — a demographic identity that shapes everything from the city's food culture and commercial corridors to its civic organizations and political representation. The City Council actively celebrates and invests in this identity: the city hosts events including a Bayanihan Kamayan Feast celebrating Filipino culture, connection, and community, the 4th Annual Children's Day Celebration organized by the Daly City Chinese Youth Committee, and a Progress Pride Flag raising for Pride Month — reflecting a genuinely multicultural civic calendar. But cultural identity is also a policy issue: immigrant and multilingual residents need city services in their languages, cultural businesses on commercial corridors need economic support, and civic engagement — from voting to public comment at City Council — requires outreach in Tagalog, Cantonese, Spanish, and other languages spoken by Daly City's diverse population. Federal immigration enforcement threats add urgency to the city's sanctuary city commitments.
