Parks & Open Space — A Small City, Big Ambitions
active• dalycity
Despite its dense urban fabric, Daly City is making meaningful investments in parks and open space — a quality-of-life priority for a city where residents have limited private outdoor space. The city recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Gellert Park Dog Park on May 28, 2026 — a small but tangible amenity for one of the city's most active neighborhood parks. Adjacent to the city, San Bruno Mountain State and County Park completed a major Day Use Improvement Project introducing new picnic areas, expanded restrooms, and interpretive features designed to welcome visitors of all abilities — improvements that benefit Daly City residents who use the mountain's trails and open space. The city is simultaneously managing the Serramonte redevelopment's parks component, which includes new public open space embedded in the residential development footprint. With limited land available for new parks in a built-out urban city, creative partnerships with the county, school districts, and developers are essential for expanding the green space residents need.
