Supportive Housing Safety — The Hillview Court Crisis

activemilpitas
Hillview Court, a 134-unit permanent supportive housing complex for formerly homeless residents at 1000 Hillview Court, has been the site of an alarming pattern of deaths. Milpitas police recorded multiple calls for service where people were found dead at the complex, with residents and family members alleging that the actual number of deaths — many of them suspected overdoses — is far higher than official figures reflect, and warning that bodies go undiscovered for days. Community organizer Rosie Chavez has called out the lack of oversight by the complex's nonprofit operator, saying staff are not conducting regular wellness checks on residents. The facility, which serves residents with clinical mental health diagnoses, provides genuinely important housing — but the current conditions represent a serious failure of oversight and resident safety.
