Wildfire Preparedness & Evacuation Safety

activesaratoga
Saratoga is one of 14 communities in Santa Clara County identified as at elevated wildfire risk, and the threat is not abstract — fires in the Santa Cruz Mountains have come perilously close to the city's hillside neighborhoods in recent years. The city actively manages wildfire preparedness resources including a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Neighborhood Watch coordination, and guidance on PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs, which can last longer than two days and require advance preparation. The two pending Builder's Remedy projects on Pierce Road have sharpened public attention on evacuation route capacity: residents have specifically cited the risk that new development could block or overwhelm the limited hillside roads used for emergency egress. The Los Altos Hills County Fire District, which serves much of the adjacent area, has made I-280 vegetation management and home ignition zone assessments regional priorities directly relevant to Saratoga's hillside zones.
