Dear Neighbors,

This weekend, the San Francisco Marathon will take place. While many of you will be running this yourselves or cheering on friends and family who are, I want to make sure that everyone is aware of the disruptions this may cause to your plans throughout the city.

In the map above, the purple lines crossing the marathon route (in yellow) are the crossing locations for vehicles. However, vehicles can cross only during large gaps between runners, meaning intermittent passage and no guarantee of frequency.

The marathon begins at 5:15 AM and ends around noon. Full details regarding road closures are available https://click.bos.sfgov.org/?qs=ABB7InYiOjEsImQiOjQ5NDZ9AAoAAAAAAsxFKQlUUuHQiv8oq0NgbWZpgNLE3CdonNNcHL-kbp-9Nt1kE_T8eMSz9QmcJyRBYeQIiNkZ4aBHOR670bd-cYPHidv5J1kDoEfBjA here . Be sure to check frequently as information will change depending on the hour.

What you should know: Traffic

Be prepared for heavy traffic if you are attempting to cross the marathon route. I encourage you to take public transport or walk to your destination instead as it will be considerably faster.

Marina

If you live along Marina Blvd., you may have difficulties leaving your garage or street parking. Be prepared for severe delays.

Crossing the marathon

The primary means to cross the marathon route are east/west passthroughs along 26th/27th Ave and north/south passthroughs along 16th St. Shown in purple on the maps below. These streets will have heavy traffic and I would advise avoiding crossing the marathon route via car if possible.

San Francisco can and should be able to do large, fun events, and I’m thankful the SF Marathon will once again add to the vibrancy of our city. I hope this information has been helpful.

Wishing you a happy and safe Marathon day!

Sincerely,

Stephen Sherrill

District 2 Supervisor
