As of yesterday, the San Francisco Police Department has rolled out new boundaries for its police stations, including some important changes for coverage in District 3.
*I was proud to work alongside over a dozen community organizations to advocate for these police district boundary changes last year.* The City only gets a chance to review district station boundaries once every 10 years. Recognizing the opportunity we had when that review was occurring last year, we pushed for better boundaries for District 3 that will result in real change for our residents over the next 10 years.
Some of the changes we secured include:
* Central Station, which will assume responsibility for an additional area west to Van Ness Avenue including Polk Street.

* Tenderloin Station, which will now assume responsibility for an additional portion of Lower Nob Hill.

These changes will bring more much-needed attention to our merchants along the Polk corridor, and help us execute our public safety initiatives to address neighborhood conditions in Lower Nob Hill. *These police boundary changes are a structural change to strengthen our day-to-day responses to the public safety needs of District 3.*
Yesterday, I invited the new Central Station Captain David “Quoc” Do and officers from Central Station to join me on a walk along Polk Street to introduce them to the small businesses and community leaders that have been eagerly awaiting this change. It was great to connect the small business owners and employees with the police officers who will now be keeping an eye out for them & responding to their calls for service. We’ll be holding a similar merchant walk in Lower Nob Hill shortly to introduce Tenderloin Station to the community.
The SFPD does not anticipate the changes will cause any disruption to service for any stations. Instead, the new boundaries will help ensure patrol operations are balanced when officers are responding to calls for service and incidents across the city. SFPD has already adjusted resources to ensure their staffing meets any new demands at individual district stations.

Finally, an important note: you do not need to do anything differently when you call for help ( https://www.sf.gov/make-right-call-right-help?utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sendgrid.com ). Dispatchers will route you accordingly based on your location to the station that can serve you best.
