Summary
San Mateo County faces a growing Vehicle License Fee (VLF) funding shortfall that could reach $1 billion over five years, threatening cuts to essential services like homelessness support, health care, and mental health programs. The County urges state leaders to act to protect these critical safety-net services. Upcoming Board agenda items include adopting a Shared Prosperity resolution, a juvenile justice study session, and an interim moratorium on new or expanded detention facilities. The newsletter also highlights community support efforts for families displaced by a major Foster City fire and promotes local events such as September Nights on B Street and tech help sessions at the Main Library.

** Hi !

**

August has been a busy month. As we returned from Board Recess, there has been much to focus on, including the growing Vehicle License Fee (VLF) funding crisis.

Our County, in collaboration with our cities, recently held a press conference and study session on the VLF shortfall. While reserve funding has helped cover funds owed by the State, reserves cannot solve what could become a $1 billion funding crisis over the next five years. Without State action, the County could face difficult cuts to positions and essential services, including homelessness services, health care, and mental health programs, with impacts that extend to our city partners. We continue to urge the Governor and State leaders to act and protect the critical safety-net services our residents depend on.

** Support for Families Affected at 815 Sea Spray Ln

Recently, Foster City was impacted by a six-alarm fire that displaced approximately 49 families at 815 Sea Spray Ln. As our community comes together to support those affected, several resources are available to help displaced families with temporary housing, food, clothing, and other essential expenses during this difficult time.

If you would like to support affected community members, there are various GoFundMe’s that are still raising money.

Here are a few of those fundraisers: * GoFundMe for Ryan Razani (https://us.list-manage.com/10qGPyXGhPk?e=118eb8f15f&c2id=aa69b3dee4a8d1e79e3540741ed3b703) * GoFundMe organized by the Foster City Chamber of Commerce (https://us.list-manage.com/Mq22etwWA6r?e=118eb8f15f&c2id=aa69b3dee4a8d1e79e3540741ed3b703) * GoFundMe for Xi Chen's Family (https://us.list-manage.com/8RxrSKKW5rH?e=118eb8f15f&c2id=aa69b3dee4a8d1e79e3540741ed3b703) * GoFundMe for Margaret and Scarlett (https://us.list-manage.com/119q8iplYQn?e=118eb8f15f&c2id=aa69b3dee4a8d1e79e3540741ed3b703) * GoFundMe organized by the SMFC Administrators Association (https://us.list-manage.com/BcA7BEZVRAB?e=118eb8f15f&c2id=aa69b3dee4a8d1e79e3540741ed3b703)
