Summary
District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter announces major infrastructure upgrades in Chinatown, including improvements to Portsmouth Square, the Chinatown Branch Library, and the Chinatown Public Health Center. These projects will bring a new park, library, and health center to the community. To accommodate construction, there will be significant traffic disruptions on Kearny Street and the Broadway Tunnel throughout late July and August, including full street closures and lane restrictions. Local business access will be maintained, and residents are encouraged to follow posted signs and allow extra travel time. A town hall is scheduled for August 11 to address community questions and provide updates. Monthly DPW office hours with Chinese interpretation are also available for ongoing feedback.

Chinatown is currently undergrowing generational infrastructure improvement projects ( https://sfpublicworks.org/chinatown-improvement-projects?utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sendgrid.com ) at Portsmouth Square, Chinatown Branch Library, and Chinatown Public Health Center. Soon, we will have a brand new, upgraded park, library, and health center to serve our district!

With these three transformative capital projects moving forward, there will be upcoming traffic changes on Kearny Street and in the Broadway Tunnel. I want to make sure you are aware of these changes and plan accordingly as you move around the district in the coming weeks and months.

The partial closure of Kearny Street started today. Local business access will remain available during these closures. During July 30th-August 15th, expect construction vehicles, lane closures, slower traffic, temporary “No Parking | Tow Away” zones and pedestrian detours along Kearny Street between Clay & Washington. Please follow directions from on-site flaggers and posted signs, and allow extra travel time due to possible construction delays. Call 311 for questions about parking tickets or towed vehicles.
