Anders Fung
Anders Fung was elected to the City Council in December 2020 and assumed mayorship in December 2023. He was born in Hong Kong, and was sworn in as the first Asian American immigrant to serve in the Millbrae City Council and as a Mayor. He also serves on various key regional leadership positions, including as the President of San Mateo County Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, an Executive Board Member of Peninsula Clean Energy, Legislative Committee and Board of Directors at the City/County Association of Government at San Mateo County, Board of Directors at the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. Prior to the 2020 election, Anders Fung also served on the Millbrae Planning Commission from July 2017 to November 2020. Anders’ legislative and administrative agenda included expansion of housing opportunities, economic development, increasing environmental friendly and sustainable development, improving transportation safety and efficiency, advocating for skilled union labors and teacher housing. Throughout his public service, Anders actively worked to increase governmental transparency and streamline approval processes to enable businesses a clear pathway to success.
At the age of 18, Anders immigrated to California from Hong Kong. Anders received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. However, like many immigrants in the United States, Anders wanted to pursue his independent American Dream. In 2002, Anders launched into a career of entrepreneurship. In just about two decades, Anders provided over 50+ new housing units, and continues to serve as the president of his residential design firm, general construction company, as well as his real estate development ventures.
Anders’ passion combines economic development with sustainable residential and commercial development. His portfolio reveals a strong value-adding strategy guided by a focus on fiscal responsibility and budget optimization. Anders has successfully developed many valuable properties through an Affordability-by-Design approach. Utilizing this strategy, Anders has worked with the San Francisco Housing Authority to create intelligent affordable housing. Furthermore, as a certified green building professional, Anders understands the importance of sustainable development and made sure all his projects are Green Point certified.
In addition to entrepreneurship, Anders is passionate about community service. He is a member of the Millbrae Lions Club where he volunteers and raises funds for educational and non-profit initiatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anders volunteered with the Millbrae Lions Club along with Millbrae Cultural Committee and delivered over 6,000 face masks to community members. Anders also supported Lifesteps Foundation, served as a board member for the Peninsula Chinese Business Association (PCBA), fundraised for local schools and provided scholarship opportunities to students with financial needs. Anders actively works with the Self Help for Elderly to provide social services to the senior community. Anders has proudly served the community in many aspects and continues to do so at every opportunity.
A Millbrae resident since 2009, Anders is motivated by his wife and children to contribute to Millbrae’s success. As a parent of two, he understands what makes Millbrae an ideal community for raising families, and he is committed to protecting and improving it.
