Resolution
Traffic safety — especially around schools — has become one of the most consistent quality-of-life concerns raised by Los Altos residents. The adopted FY 2025–26 budget places special emphasis on traffic infrastructure including Complete Streets and Safe Routes to Schools, with street improvements along Covington Road near Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School completed in January 2026, including new traffic safety pavement markings and stop-ahead signage. The city is simultaneously developing a Complete Streets Plan and an Active Transportation Plan — both of which are now subject to a special joint meeting of the Planning, Complete Streets, and Financial Commissions. With the General Plan update underway, advocates for pedestrians, cyclists, and families with children have a once-in-20-years opportunity to embed safe streets principles into the city's long-term policy framework.
